Sureshni completed her medical degree and postgraduate specialist training in Histopathology in Sri Lanka before migrating to Australia in 2007. She completed her registrar training in Anatomical Pathology with the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia rotating through Monash Heath and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre during 2007-11.

Having obtained her fellowship in 2011, Sureshni worked as Consultant Anatomical Pathologist in both public and private sectors including Royal Women's Hospital and The Northern Hospital in Melbourne, working closely with clinical colleagues and actively participating in multidisciplinary meetings. She commenced work at St. Vincent's Hospital in 2020. While Sureshni enjoys a wide range of histopathology and cytopathology work, her main interests are in breast, genitourinary, haematolymphoid and gastrointestinal pathology.

Sureshni has a keen interest in research, particularly on breast cancer, collaborating with researchers at The University of Melbourne starting in 2015 through her position as Honorary Fellow at the Department of Clinical Pathology in the Melbourne Medical School. She continues to be actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
