Dr Afaq Khan


Areas of interest: Cytopathology, gynaecological pathology, gastrointestinal pathology, dermatology, cardiothoracic pathology, tumor pathology, immunopathology and medical informatics.

Dr Afaq Khan is a specialist Histopathologist and Cytopathologist, who graduated with honours from Monash University in 1981, obtained his fellowship in pathology and FMGMS in 1988, and his fellowship in cytology in 1992.

He completed his training as an Intern at the Alfred Hospital in 1982. From 1983-85 he lectured in pathology at Monash University Department of Pathology and Immunology at the Alfred Hospital.

Following this, he worked as a Pathology Registrar at Western General and Prince Henry's Hospitals, from 1986-88. From 1989-93 he was a Consultant Pathologist at Gribbles Pathology and from 1993-95 Deputy Director of Pathology, Mercy Hospital for Women and Head of Pathology, Werribee Mercy Hospital. He worked with Dorevitch Pathology from 1995-2009 and was Pathologist in Charge of their Knox Private Hospital pathology laboratory. Afaq joined Healthscope in 2009 as Director of Pathology at the Knox Laboratory prior to joining the Anatomical Pathology team at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne in 2011.
